Oven being installed!
Noberta, Tatie’s Home owner was advised by the supply store manager where she bought the oven to build an outside kitchen in the bakery’s backyard to house the custom oven. She was told that the custom oven will be too big for the bakery’s kitchen and that it will produce too much heat for the building. Building an outside kitchen was extra expenses that she did not plan for. Thus, she had to wait a few weeks to save money to build the outside kitchen without dipping too much on business profits. This had taken her behind her schedule. Actually, the oven is being installed in the bakery’s backyard inside the outside kitchen. Anticipating an increase in production, the owner had already contacting 3 more markets and 4 drugstores. In order to meet demand from these new customers, the owner has hired 2 new full time employees. They are 2 young people who work in the morning before going to afternoon classes to finish their high school. Instead of hiring 3 part time employees as stated in her goal, she will hire 3 full time employees as she plans to hire one more full time once the oven is fully installed.

Tatie’s Home is Noberta PatisserieExpand a Bakery!

Summary
Tatie’s Home is seeking a loan to purchase a new oven to replace its old propane oven and a new oven and 2 new sets of 16 baking trays to increase production of baked goods such as bread, “coquignol,” “bonbon siwo,” wheat cookies and her signature product, the “petit pain sec.” The 2 ovens that the business has now can only hold 3 trays at one time, are not fuel efficient, and often require maintenance. Energy and maintenance expenses have increased dramatically for the business. Low productivity as a result of its inefficient oven and lack of baking trays prevents the bakery from meeting the demands of its clients and in turn, affects its revenues and profits. The owner wants to purchase a new oven that is more fuel efficient and that would be able to hold 16 baking trays at once. This will increase productivity, allow her to meet the demand of her customers, and increase her revenues and profits.

Goal

The goal of this project is for Tatie’s Home to purchase a new oven that will help her to increase her production capacity and hire additional employees.

Milestones

Established in 2008, Tatie’s Home business began with the owner baking products by herself and has grown through selling baked goods at church meetings and offices to delivering products to 12 different markets and offices. Tatie’s now employs 5 employees.

Community Impact

Last summer, Norberta hired 2 high school students on a part-time basis to help with production. Now they work on weekends and sometimes after classes during the week. With the income they earn, they are able to pay their tuition since their parents are not able to afford the cost of school. With this project, Norbeta plans to hire three more students as part-time workers.
